Dear Jazz Fans,
Wynton Marsalis said of his music, “It sounds like America.” Stevie Wonder immortalized him with the lyric, “And the King of All, Sir Duke.” He was honored with 12 Grammys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award, The Presidential Medal of Freedom and France’s Legion of Honor. Jazz on the Plazz is pleased to host a very special summer paying homage to The Duke, Edward Kennedy Ellington with our theme….. an Ellington Summer
Joining us to provide their take on The Ellington Songbook, will be an eclectic array of some of the world’s finest jazz artists. From Los Angeles, the very hot, very hip Mark Winkler. From San Francisco, the incomparable Paula West, along with local favorite Nicolas Bearde performing with our house band, Full Spectrum Jazz.
This season we also welcome back the exquisite Bria Skonberg and proudly present the legendary Booker T. Jones, plus an exclusive appearance by multi-Grammy Award winner, The Manhattan Transfer performing Tuesday, July 26th at our annual Gala event. And that’s just the half of it. So get ready to catch the Train (yes, that one) on Wednesday evenings this summer. Stops will include, Satin Doll, Mood Indigo and Sophisticated Lady….sounds like America to me.
Join us for …an Ellington Summer
